Laugh Track: How much time and energy did you spend making it?
Artfacestudios: “The Sparkling” was filmed on location at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. Some scenes were finished in our green screen room if they needed touching up or another layer of video. We spent one sleepless night rampaging through the hotel unsupervised with puppets and a bunch of liquor. Several hours were spent at the bar. Upon receiving the invite to “go ahead and cross any lines that keep you out, and have fun” from the owner and bartender we continued our evening in a drunken rage throughout the entire hotel… I would imagine we created several of the “unexplained” sounds the ghost tour might have heard.
Was it worth it? No really, was it?
Considering we would have made the video weather we were turning it in to Open Screen Night or Laugh Track anyway, we all agree that it was well worth a drunken spree through a ghost infested hotel. However once we were there and we got the camera rolling, the story kind of unfolded itself. The Stanley plays “The Shining” 24 hours a day on one of their TV channels. There was no escaping. The drinks at the bar are a little pricey and we had several of them. That is really the only questionable “was it worth it” experience.
Tell us the worst thing that happened on set. And by that we mean the funniest thing.
There are a series of rooms on the corners of the hallways that the hotel uses for storage, not only are they unlocked, they are unfinished and the drywall is covered with people’s signatures dating clear back to early 60’s from what we saw. The mini-fridge scene in “The Sparkling” was shot in one of these rooms. There was broken glass on one of the floors and it cut Zac’s foot pretty bad leaving a decent blood trail to our room all the way down the hallway…but then, it healed and it was no biggie, but we decided it would be in our interest to do flips onto the bed, starting from the hallway running at full speed and seeing how far away you could jump and still make your flip on the bed. The only thing remotely close to a warning of any sort was the next morning during the end of our shoot. The owner simply asked us if we had fun and if we saw any ghosts. Considering he was in a room just down the hall from us, there is no doubt in our minds that he heard every word, every laugh, every back flip and every “CUT! Ow Fuck I’m Bleeding All Over The Carpet!” We also found “hidden” staircases and made our way into the kitchen just to see what was in there…
Tell us why you should win our top award. Best answer wins! (kidding…or are we?)
You would be making a huge mistake to give it to anyone else, why would YOU do that to yourself?
