Meet one of our local comics, MARA WILES!
Mara Wiles is a comic based out of Denver, Colorado. She performs regularly at the famous Comedy Works Denver and is a member of the Impulse Theater improv troupe, the longest running show in Denver. Mara recently won best comic at the Laugh Tracks Comedy Festival and is a founding member of LadyFace, Denver’s first all female sketch group. When she isn’t telling jokes she is usually pretending to get into yoga or reading Real Simple magazine.
Laugh Track: How long have you been a stand-up comic?
Mara: I have been doing stand up for 3 years. I have been performing on this crazy stage called life for 27.
What other comics will you be watching during the festival?
Everybody! My Denver counter parts are always great for a laugh. I am also looking forward to watching comics I have never seen so I can steal all of their secrets.
If you could give yourself advice when you first started out, what would it be?
Why are you starting so late??? Wasting your time in dumb college! You should have started stand up years ago! We could be on Carson by now!
And then my former self would remind me Carson is dead and we would both hold each and cry and sing “One for My Baby” as we rock ourselves ( my selves?) to sleep.
If your future self ten years from now could give you advice, what would it be?
Only buy 2 yachts. You really don’t need the 3rd.
Scientology inspired questions. Feel free to go into detail if you need to. Here we go…
HELL YES! I am all so into the Katie and Tom Divorce. Let’s get weird. Let’s audit.
a) Do you lie about yourself?
In this interview? Yes. In real life? All the time. Do I lie ot myself? Just to get myself to sleep.
b) Do you connect yourself with bad influences?
I would like to remind you that I am a stand up comic, not a missionary, so yes, yes I do.
c) Should you be punished forever?
Sure why not?! I read 50 shades of Grey.( That’s a lie) Sounds like fun!
d) Have you ever invented perverted sexual practices?
Three words for you: Biscuits and Gravy. Think about it. I know I am.
e) Is there a past life that you can’t talk about?
Well, I could regale you with the stories of my life as a dancer in Paris during the 1920’s with TB and how I stopped the WWI with my singing voice but I don’t want to bore you.
