Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

Say hello to Lund. Nathan Lund.

Laugh Track: How long have you been a stand-up comic?

Nathan: 8 years now. 4 years when I started out in Las Vegas and 4 living in Denver. So about 2 years now of being an actual comic who isn’t the worst.

What other comics will you be watching during the festival?

There are a ton of great Denver comics – Abbey Jordan, Brett Hiker, Christie Buchele, Nate Balding, Jordan Doll, Andrew (more…)

Stand-up spotlight: Erik Anker

Saturday, July 28th, 2012

If this guy looks familiar to you, that’s because this is probably his yearbook picture.

Meet ERIK ANKER

Erik Anker (born as: Jostophasen Christmas) started doing standup in blah blah blah. (Ahem) Blah blah blah blah blah. He recently won the blah blah blah award and currently sits as Thunderchief of the blah blah blah. #thunderchief

How long have you been a stand-up comic?

381 shows.

What other comics will you be watching during the festival?

Pretty much anyone from Denver and anyone not from Denver that anyone from Denver recommends. The FGC are all amazing and funny in my favorite ways, like four seperate layers of a hilarity cake.

If you could give yourself advice when you first started out, what would it be? (more…)

Shorts spotlight: Method

The director of a noir named Hawk? Perfect.

Today we present METHOD

Synopsis: A movie director doesn’t like the way the film is going, so she decides to change it. Drastically.

Director: Hawk Vaccaro

Hawk: About 72 hours (after all it was a 72 hr Film Race) and massive amounts of mental strain.

Do you think it was worth all that time/energy? (more…)

Stand-up spotlight: Abbey Jordan

Friday, July 27th, 2012

This year we’re bringing in tons of comics from all over the country. But we’re also inviting Colorado’s best comics to the show, because, well, we might run into them at Whole Foods and we don’t want them to get mad at us.

Meet ABBEY JORDAN!

Abbey Jordan started stand up in Denver in 2007 and has since lived and performed all over the country and the world. She has dazzled [her words] audiences at some of the best shows in NYC, LA, SF, PDX, SEA, CHI and Laramie! She hosts a monthly show called The Finger that draws together improv and stand up every first Friday at the Deer Pile above City O’ City. Come see the personality that alienated her for years be transmuted into a coming of ages story almost everyone can enjoy!

How long have you been a stand-up comic?

I have been a stand up for 5 years this month (August), although I remember being 8 and walking with friends making them sit down on the grass of random people’s homes while I told the same joke over and over. It was a good joke for an 8 year old.

What other comics will you be watching during the festival?

I don’t know what other comics are in the festival yet, but I am stoked to find out!

If you could give yourself advice when you first started out, what would it be? (more…)

Shorts spotlight: Webbed

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

The virtual just got more real.

Today’s spotlight is on WEBBED

Synopsis: JoeTheLegend323 seeks connection and community through a webcam until a termite infestation in his building forces him out of the virtual and into the reality.

Director: Zack Windheim

Laugh Track: How much time and energy did you spend making the movie?

Zack: We knew that if we wanted to make an entertaining film about video bloggers, we needed to spend more time and energy than the average video blogger does to tell you what their lunch tasted like. It took close to a year to finish the movie.

Do you think it was worth all that time/energy?

Was Titanic worth making?

No, honestly. Was it?

Was The Last Airbender worth making?

What’s the funniest thing that happened on set? And by funniest we mean the most horrible thing.

The strangest thing to happen on set was that our main actor had to improvise his own viral dance for three minutes in his boxers and that nothing accidentally popped out. When you watch the wide range of his dance moves in the film, it is pretty mind-blowing how that never happened.

Convince us why your film should win our top award. Best answer wins the award (joking…or are we?)

Webbed is a completely unique film that is based on the completely unique and bizarre world of vloggers on YouTube. It manages to make audiences laugh without the use of drugs, sex, or violence – all it needs are termites.

Shorts spotlight: Rocky Mountain Oysters – Antwon Thigrate

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012

We could go for some cow balls right about now…

We present ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS – ANTWON THIGRATE

Synopsis: Diddy is an aspiring musician who has invented electroperaca, a genre of music that crosses electronica with opera. But he starts running into trouble when he meets Antwon Thigrate, another musician who also plays electroperaca – except he’s actually good.

Director: Sean Williams

Laugh Track: How much time and energy did you spend making the movie?

Sean: We’ve spent much of the past year making a feature-length film called Tokeasy, which basically took 60-80 hours a week for nine months straight, so making a short episode basically felt like a vacation.

Do you think it was worth all that time/energy? (more…)

Director: Yehuda Freeman

Laugh Track: How much time and energy did you spend making the movie?

Do you think it was worth all that time/energy? (more…)

Shorts spotlight: Elizabeth?

Saturday, July 21st, 2012

We love the Overlook. It’s sad people had to die there to make this movie.

Meet ELIZABETH

Synopsis: The Overlook Hotel and Suites is up for sale due to the fact that the hotel secretaries keep dying mysteriously. The staff tries to cover up the most recent death while attempting to make a sale. Highjinks and misunderstanding abound in this mysterious dark comedy.

Actress Molly O’ Connell who plays “Elizabeth” agreed to answer our provocative questions!

Laugh Track: How much time and energy did you spend making the movie?

Molly: ALL of my time and energy went into Creating Elizabeth. I really went all out with this one. We filmed for 5 days total ? (I think) And edited for a couple of weeks. Thanks to an amazing crew of willing and able helpers/lovers of movie making, this film was made possible. (more…)
