Stand-up spotlight: Heather Snow

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

Meet HEATHER SNOW. She’ll try to incorporate some yoga moves into her act! We hope.

actual size

Heather is a Denver based comic who is best known for producing Ladies Laugh-In at Beauty Bar (A Showcase made up of mostly women and a token dude or two), two-time winner of Best of Westword. Drawing from personal experiences, she gives a dry, cynical twist to being a single, young professional.

Laugh Track: How long have you been a stand-up comic?

Heather: A little over two years. My first time on stage was when I was practicing what I called “Productive Drinking” at an Open Mic Night. I was only allowed to drink if there was an activity. I got onstage drunk, and told all of my grandfather’s old jokes. “Got yer nose!”

What other comics will you be watching during the festival?

Jay Washington. He tells me that he’s really good at Yoga. (more…)

Stand-up spotlight: Matt Monroe

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

This year we’re bringing in tons of comics from all over the country. But we’re also inviting Colorado’s best comics to the show, because, well, we might run into them at Whole Foods and we don’t want them to get mad at us.

Meet MATT MONROE!

To those that know him, Matt Monroe is a bit of a risk taker (no iPhone case) and someone who has accomplished a great many things in his lifetime. (not vegan) But the people who Matt keeps closest to him (women) know that above all else, he is the finest lover one could ask for (will go downtown).
Matt runs a monthly comedy showcase at Lannies Clocktower Cabaret (16th & Arapahoe) the last Sunday of every month and can be found pandering for your approval on the following social media websites. (will go downtown)

Stand-up spotlight: Kristin Rand

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012

Meet KRISTIN RAND, no relation to Ayn Rand for those of you that hate her.

Kristin Rand got her start in stand-up in Oklahoma but brought her big voice to the uncomprable Denver comedy scene a little over a year ago. Her brutally honest material, bubbly demeanor and undeniable stage presence have allowed her to perform on many well-respected stages including the Gr, Ladies Laugh In and Grapes of Rad. She’s opened for stars such as Nikki Glaser and Thai Rivera. In addition to stand up, Kristin performs sketch comedy and sets her alarm for 6:03 every morning but rarely wakes at that time.

Laugh Track: How long have you been a stand-up comic?

Kristin: about 5 years. i’ll say i’ve put in real effort for about 8 months sprinkled within those 5 years.

What other comics will you be watching during the festival?

i only watch other female comics.

If you could give yourself advice when you first started out, what would it be?

stop sucking. and start trying. and there is such thing as too many cock jokes.

If your future self ten years from now could give you advice, what would it be?

my future self is just 38 years old and exactly the same train wreck i am now. an adorable, loving train wreck.

Scientology inspired questions. Feel free to go into detail if you need to. Here we go…

a) Do you lie about yourself? constantly, but only to myself, employers, friends, and family. i could give a fuck what strangers think. i’m super honest with them.

b) Do you connect yourself with bad influences? no way. i’m a magnet only for bright sunshiney energy.

c) Should you be punished forever? thats life, isn’t it?

d) Have you ever invented perverted sexual practices? ha! ever heard of the chi-town choo choo? yeah, me either.

e) Is there a past life that you can’t talk about? if you put it into socio-cultural context, i didn’t know owning those slaves was wrong at the time

To see Kristin, plus many other fine comics, go to sponsored by Denver Open Media – 7:00pm @ Click here to buy tickets.
